NEWS FROM "ON THE 50 YARD LINE"

Over the last year, RIIFF has been working with the US-China Institute. From this relationship has sprung a partnership with the largest documentary festival in China: the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival.

We now have a recipricol arrangement in place where select documentaries will be invited to screen at both festivals.

Following the successful completion of RIIFF '07, we selected several films to submit to China for the first partnership screening. One of the films was "From the 50 Yard Line." We could not be more pleased as the film had its World Premiere with RIIFF this year. Below is the acceptance letter to the filmmaker, Doug Lantz.

"I’m very delighted to inform you that your entry into GZ DOC 2007 Screening “From the 50 Yard Line” has been selected to be shown to both public audience and professional audience during the festival time. We will be organizing a tour screening (Docs on Tour) in 2008 in different cities around China as well. Docs on Tour is presently bringing documentaries to public audiences in major cities in China, like Shanghai and Guangzhou. A weekly screening, Sapphire Moving Images Salon, followed by themed discussion is being held presently in Guangzhou. More information about public screening can be viewed on our website www.gzdoc.com. It is planned to bring this Festival to more Chinese cities in 2008, and to Chinese audiences who rarely have the opportunity to view international documentaries."

Film Locations Needed in Rhode Island: News from Julie Snyder

I'm producing a independent film in Providence called "Tanner Hall' . Its a boarding school coming of age story. The co-writer/co-directors are Tatiana von Furstenberg (Diane's daughter/Barry Diller's stepdaughter) and Francesca Gregorini (Barbara Bach's daughter/Ringo Starr's stepdaughter). They both went to Brown in the late 80's, early 90's. The pieces came together very quickly and we are presently in pre-production with our first date of principal photography being Nov 12.

There are a few things I am looking for ..so I thought I would ask around.

1) For filming

A) A house that has Interiors from the 1950's, 1960's or 1970's-- original wallpaper, colorful kitchen cabinets, and ideally even a sunken fireplace and vintage carpet in the family room..but we can be flexible. This would be a 1 day shoot and we woudl pay a location fee

B) a upstairs bedroom hallway with 3-4 bedroom off of it..we are still trying to find the boarding school dorm area..again a location fee would be paid

2) For Renting

1) 4-5 bedroom house furnished/unfurnished that Francesca and Tatiana can rent up til xmas. They would like to be on the east side... and woud rent it up to xmas

Our production offices are located in Nathan Bishop school in Providence. Please email me or call me if you have any leads

Thank you

Local Authors to Hold Book Signing Event: an update from Jon Raben

(Warwick, Rhode Island, USA) - Seventeen “first time published” Rhode Island authors will be appearing together along with award winning movie director/producer and publisher, Jonathan D. Raben of Cranston, at one big signing event THIS Friday Evening in Warwick, RI. His film Italian Americans and Federal Hill won the First Place - Viola M. Marshall Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary at this year's prestigious 2007 Rhode Island International Film Festival!

The event will be held at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 1350B Bald Hill Road in Warwick, Rhode Island on Friday, October 19th from 7pm to 9pm. Admission is free.

This unique event for local published authors from throughout Rhode Island has been promoted by the authors themselves these past few weeks to get a possible step up in the local artists’ community and even the broader publishing world.

“This is more than just signing and selling some books,” declared Melissa Chiavaroli, Community Relations Manager for event sponsor Barnes & Noble in Warwick . “We are shining our spotlight on local talent whose first time published works might go unnoticed. A book signing event on this scale gives each author a unique opportunity to invite prospective publishers, agents, publicists, movie producers and even friends or relatives and make them aware of their achievement and their potential for future works.”

”People who may have thought about writing a book or making a movie can benefit from talking to and learning from these published authors who have made their first big step.” Chiavaroli said. “These authors/artists recently made it into publication or film, and can easily remember and relate the pitfalls of getting to that first plateau. Where else can you get this kind of personal first-hand and up-to-date information?”

“For example, Jonathan Raben’s film Italian Americans and Federal Hill and book has been very successful locally,” Chiavaroli said. “He will be here to discuss the making of his movie and also his plans for yet another! He’ll also be giving away movie posters and signing some as well. Those attending can benefit from his experience.”

Local first-time published authors who will be signing books, answering questions and promoting general discussion include Rhonda Alarie, Jeanne Archambeault, Henry D. Astarjian M.D., Ed Beard, Marc Blevins, Joan Creamer, Jeanne Dumas, Israel Helms, Dr. Billy Johnson, Horst Maurer, Barbara Morrison, Eva Pasco, Mike Pescione, Les Rolston, Ken Ryan Sr., Dee Dee Serpas, & CJ West. Their works range from mystery and romance to health and current affairs.

The Adam Schlachter Interview & Film Promo

Adam won our top short film award in 2006. He's currently premiering his latest work at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival. I thought his interview might be amusing along with the trailer for his feature length Horror film.
